Microsens Biotechnologies has developed synthetic ligand-based diagnostics for the rapid and sensitive detection of Transmlssible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs) and other related protein aggregation diseases, such as Alzheimer's Disease and Parkinson's Disease - collectively known as the "Protein Conformation Disorders", or the “Protein Aggregation Diseases”.

Seprion ligands selectively bind to protein aggregates and can be used to separate protein aggregates from non-aggregated protein. The ligands can be bound to magnetic beads (PAD-Beads) to selectively remove aggregated proteins from solution for further assay by commercial EIA, in-house EIA, or Western Blot. Alternatively, the Seprion ligand can be bound to a plate and can be used in a sandwich EIA to directly detect a specific protein with an appropriate labeled antibody.

PAD-BEADS KIT
PAD-Beads are a unique tool that can be used to separate abnormal proteins present in many types of Protein Aggregation Diseases from the normal unaggregated protein. This ability to easily and efficiently separate the abnormal from normal protein facilitates research on Protein Aggregation Diseases. Research applications include the study and monitoring of Protein Aggregation Diseases in human and animal samples and drug screening in vitro and in vivo. PAD-Beads are a front-end separation technique that can be combined with a back-end protein-specific commercial or in-house ELISA detection to enable the specific detection of abnormal aggregated proteins. PAD-Beads can also be used as a sample preparation step prior to performing Western Blot techniques.
To date PAD-Beads have been demonstrated to work with β-amyloid, tau, α-synuclein, huntingtin and prion protein. PAD-Beads are available in either 25 sample kits or 100 sample kits.
